iPod Upgrade

I got my hands on this 5th Generation 30GB iPod several years ago and it just sat in a drawer, waiting for the right moment. Now that I've cancelled my Spotify, it seemed that it was time to resurrect it.


Upgrades I've done:
  • Clear protective case
  • Clear front faceplate
  • Black backplate
  • Black clickwheel
  • Clear center button
  • Black dock bezel
  • Black headphone jack
  • Black lock switch
  • 650mAh lithium battery
  • Installed Rockbox operating system

I sourced the parts through AliExpress and eBay. Installing Rockbox alone was a huge improvement. I'm not a big Apple guy and usually feel restricted by their interfaces. Rockbox gives much more control and allows for changing the look and feel. Highly recommend.


Upgrades I'd still like to do:
  • Bigger battery
  • Higher capacity solid state drive
